The smartphone photography course is designed for amateur photographers who want to take great pictures with today’s smartphones and their many features.
You will learn how to consciously direct the process of taking pictures, to use your surroundings and light intelligently to get beautiful and original photos.

The course of photography on the phone, will also be useful to everyone who needs to show the results of their professional activities on the Internet (Facebook, contacts, classmates, instagram, etc.), makeup artists, beauticians, stylists, confectioners, and many, many other professionals of their business…

Mobile photography course will also be useful for those who have just thought about photography and want to try their hand in this direction.
The basic principles of photography are the same for both smartphones and advanced DSLRs.
Learn the basics, and if you want to, it won’t be too difficult to switch to photography with an advanced camera.

What do you need to know and be able to do to learn effectively?

Prior training is not necessary, as the training of photography on the smartphone are held for beginners amateur photographers. The instructor explains everything in simple and accessible language.

What smartphone should be?

For training, any smartphone or tablet is fine, as long as it has a working camera.
You can choose one of the training options:

  • 4 lessons on mastering the smartphone camera;
  • 12 lessons on mastering the camera smartphone and competent construction of the composition in the frame;
  • 30 lessons, where you will pump your skills in different genres of photography;
  • individual training, in the amount you need and at a convenient time;
  • Optional attendance at any class (subject to availability).

Mobilography course plan

Part 1

Express course of 4 classes on mastering the functionality of the smartphone camera. Classes are held twice a week, lasting two weeks.

Over four sessions, you will be able to:

  • understand the features of your smartphone as a camera;
  • adjust your smartphone camera to your photographic needs;
  • learn how to use lighting for beautiful photographs.

You will reinforce the knowledge you get in the lesson by doing photo works in class and on your own by doing your homework.
For each lesson, students get access to the theoretical materials of the course in electronic form.

Lesson 1: Lighting as the main tool for creating photographs.

In the first lesson:

  • you will learn about the basic properties of light and its characteristics that affect the results in photography;
  • You will learn how to use light to produce a high-quality, beautiful picture;
  • You will understand what exposure and white balance are and how these parameters influence the brightness and color of your photographs. Learn how to control these parameters on your smartphone.

Lesson 2: A lesson in creating photographs with the effects of clear and blurred motion in the frame.

At the lesson, you will reinforce the previously acquired knowledge and skills, and learn how to create photos:

  • with motion freeze;
  • with the effect of artistic motion blur.
  • You will master two professional techniques, which will help you create unusual photo-work, which previously could be done only with SLR cameras.

Lesson 3: What does your smartphone’s optics affect?

In this lesson:

  • you will learn how optics affects the transfer of space in the frame and learn how to use it to your advantage ;
  • You will learn what GRIFF is and how to create both completely sharp images and images with optically blurred background.

You will be able to strengthen your knowledge by photographic work both in class and on your own by doing your homework.

Lesson 4: Practical Lesson

In this lesson:

  • you will consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired earlier;
  • You will learn how to choose the right options for taking pictures in the manual mode (for iPhones you will need to install an additional application).

Part 2. Basic Course Mobilography (Parts 1, 2).

Sessions: 2 times a week, 4 weeks long.

  • 8 lessons;
  • Four online case studies of your work.

In eight lessons, in addition to what you’ve already learned, you’ll master:

  • use of artificial light sources;
  • basics of composition;
  • basics of portrait photography in the open air.

Lesson 5: sources of artificial light.

In the class:

  • you will test a built-in pulsed light source in your smartphone;
  • use a constant light source to create your photos.

The given knowledge and skills will expand your abilities as a photographer and will help you to obtain high-quality and professional photos.

Lesson 5.1. Online homework review in the study group chat.

Starting with this lesson, you need to pay special attention to the result you get.

Lesson 6: What is composition?

Composition is a certain artistic measure for conveying the idea of a work of art in the fine arts as well as in photography.
A frame (photograph) composition is understood as a particular arrangement of objects between which a certain correlation is created, taking into account linear, tonal and light decision, which gives the picture perception integrity.

A successful solution to the compositional problem, makes it possible to:

  • convey the idea of one’s picture to the viewer;
  • create a photograph that will be of interest to outside observers.

At the lesson:

  • You will master the universal algorithm of composition;
  • find out what the laws of composition are;
  • Apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

At the lesson you will learn:

  • how to formulate and work out the idea of your photo session;
  • The basics of working with the model;

Part 3. Full course mobilography (parts 1,2,3).

Classes are 2 times a week, duration 2 months + 2 classes with a choice of dates.

  • 16 classes;
  • 2 online classes in mobile photo processing;
  • 12 online reviews of your work.

Full training program, including classes:

  • on plein air portrait photography;
  • studio photography; macro photography;
  • on the subject photography;
  • photo processing.

Lesson 9. Home, mobile photography studio.

In this lesson:

  • You’ll get an idea of how to create a home photo studio;
  • You will try out a minimal set in the work in the class.

That will allow you to perform photographic work at a professional level:

  • at home; in an open space;
  • in other premises not adapted for professional photographing.

Lesson 10. Application of External Light Sources in Plein Air Portraiture.
The knowledge and experience acquired in this lesson will make for interesting photographic portraits.

Lesson 12. Macro Photography with Smartphones.

Macro photography is a type of photography where small objects are depicted at a 1:1 scale, or at a higher magnification, when photographing

  • plants, flowers, insects;
  • jewelry;
  • any objects of small size;
  • in dentistry, cosmetology, etc.;

In the class, you will learn how to create interesting macro photos on your smartphones.

Lesson 12.1 Online parsing of macro photos.

As usual, we will necessarily analyze the results of your work in the class and works made by yourself.

Lesson 13. The Basics of Object Shooting with Smartphones.

By attending this lesson you will gain basic skills in organizing and taking pictures of various objects.

Lesson 13.1 Online case study on subject-specific smartphone photography.

Lesson 14: Fundamentals of Art Photography.

A photographer to create artistic pictures, can use:

  • compositional techniques;
  • smartphone camera settings;
  • different built-in lenses, attachments, and filters;
  • artistic photo processing.

In this lesson we’ll look at the first three items, as there will be two separate lessons on processing.

Lesson 14.1. Online review of homework on creating artistic photographs.

Lesson 15. Mobile photo processing, part 1.

In this live online class, the instructor will:

  • will give you an overview of the main features of the photo editor;
  • will help you master the necessary minimum of processing.
